Where do lessons take place? For students local to my area I mostly I carry out lessons in the student's home, but if preferred, lessons can take place at my home. Online lessons are available for people further afield. Please note that during the current covid-19 situation, in-person lessons may take place with necessary precautions, or lessons can be delivered online for anyone who doesn't feel comfortable with in-person lessons. Please contact me for more details.

How long are lessons?Length of lessons can vary. I find the optimum lesson time can vary from person to person, so the lesson duration will depend on what works best for the individual. See lesson lengths and rates here. Or contact me for more information.

Is there a contract or a minimum number of lessons? No, I like to keep things as flexible as possible. I find it works better if the timescale can be 'played by ear' to some degree, with no obligation. I therefore do not require students to commit to a set number of lessons. Lessons can continue for as long a time period (or short a time period) as felt necessary, with no notice period required for ending lessons.

How frequently are lessons held? Are lessons held weekly? It works best if lessons take place on a regular basis (and this is also helpful for me for scheduling), but there is no obligation for lessons to take place every week. I find most students do prefer weekly lessons, but some people may only need lessons every two weeks or possibly even three weeks depending on need, and I have occasionally run shorter 30 minute lessons twice a week for younger children who have needed a 'little but often' boost. This is all dependent on the individual.
-
Do you follow a set plan of content or a set scheme of work? No, lessons are tailored specifically for the individual: to address the individual's gaps in understanding or misconceptions, and/or to consolidate recent learning in school/college, and/or to extend understanding to greater depth or pre-teach for a 'head-start', and/or to revise and apply knowledge and understanding (for example in preparation for exams/tests. All of this depends on the individual and their needs at the time. This is one of the greatest benefits of one-to-one tuition - as a tutor I am able to work much more intuitively and reactively than teachers teaching whole classes. The series of lessons (and in fact the content of each individual lesson) can go wherever is needed, from lesson to lesson or even from one part of a lesson to the next, depending on the individual student's needs in that moment.

How much do lessons cost? Please see rates here.

Do in-person lessons cost more than online lessons? For students who are local, within a reasonable driving distance, my preference would be for in-person lessons. I therefore offer in-person lessons for the same rate as online lessons. Details of rates and lesson durations can be found here.
